Leviticus 19:14 “Do not curse the deaf or put
a stumbling block in front of the blind, but fear your God. I am
the Lord. Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to
the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.”
Think about this. If you are
a follower of Jesus Christ, you must be able to recall that at one time you
were dead in your sin. At one time you were blind to the grace and love of God.
At one time you were deaf to His voice and His Truth. The eyes you have to see
with now and the ears you have to hear with now were given to you by the Lord
when He brought you out of darkness into the light of His Kingdom. Listen
carefully; the world is full of deaf and blind, spiritually (and thus
essentially) dead folk. Like prisoners of war discovered near the end of WWII,
they are emaciated, starving to death, sick and dying. Outwardly they may
appear handsome, successful, at the “top of their game”, but without Jesus
Christ living His life within them, they are poor, blind, deaf and in deadly
straights. So, how do I relate to them? Is my life reflecting who Jesus really
is? By my living am I removing things that might cause them to stumble and miss
the grace of God? Are my words those of an ambassador of Jesus pleading for
them to be reconciled to God because He has done everything needed to effect
that reconciliation? Or, are my words coming out as if I am cursing them for
not being able to hear as yet?
