 HIS ABILITY...NOT OURS

1 Corinthians 1:8-11 

"We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, Who raises the dead. And He did rescue us from mortal danger, and He will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in Him, and He will continue to rescue us. And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety." 

This testifies against the demonic idea that God will not give you more than YOU can handle. If we COULD handle anything, Jesus would not have come to die and rise again to give us life in the place of our death. There is no one more ineffective than a dead person. We live now by His Life being lived in us.

We live in absolute dependency upon His Power at work within us...and we grow in understanding and wisdom as did St. Paul as he went through what he could not bear, learning deeper his total reliance upon the Lord Jesus Christ.

  DEVOTE YOURSELF TO PRAYER Colossians 4:2 "Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart." The word "devote" in the Old Testament refers to the whole burnt offering. To devote something was to surrender everything, nothing held back, to be consumed by the Lord. Devoted to prayer entails giving your whole self to prayer in utter surrender of all you are to God in intentional communication, not religious meanderings. It is a seeking of the Lord, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the Presence of God to you, to enter into the throne room in Jesus' name.
