WHERE IS MY SECURITY FOUND?

We feel most secure when we know what is going on around us and that in knowing, we have some degree of feeling like we are in control. Being "in control" can be synonymous with feeling secure. But then, how "in control" are we actually?

I believe that a great part of human anxiety and insecurity come from the tidal wave of information about what is going on worldwide. I think that we were never wired to know EVERYTHING going on behind the closed doors of nations and peoples. We cannot fix the brokenness and madness around us. Most things being reported by news agencies are things traumatic, chaotic, evil and sensational. That's what sells newspapers and fuels viewer statistics from news outlets.

The vast majority of "news" postings serve to emphasis how little control we actually have over life-events. We are deceived into thinking IF I know about stuff, I then have greater control over the terrifying "stuff." My understanding of events gives the illusion of being able to control "stuff."

I must face the facts, the undeniable truth that I am finite in every way conceivable. I will never know everything that can be known in any area of research or human experience. Even what I "know" is incomplete. My present knowledge of things, people, current events or experience can never fulfill the deep thirst for security I find in myself.

As a human being, I was called into being by God. He caused my conception; He knit me together in my mother's womb. I was made to know Him and to live fully human by Him being very Life within me. That was what Adam and Eve had before their fall from grace and into insecurity. They believed that they needed something more than what God had provided to be secure and fully human. THAT was the satanic lie.

Humanity has been trying ever since to try and draw life from things created rather from the Creator Who alone can give to humanity what it has lost in our rebellion against the Truth. We live in varied states of insecurity all the time and it wears away at the human soul driving us to try and find lasting means of being secure in things that were never meant to be the source of human security. That is hard, impossible for us humans. We live in a broken world, a world broken because we wanted to be our own god and goddess. We will never become "gods" and there will always be more than we can know and even less than can be really controlled.

God has not left us to the doom of our own rebellion. He has made it clear that Life is found only in what He has done in the Incarnation, Life, sacrificial death and life-transforming Resurrection of Jesus Christ and in His Ascencion into heaven to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. We do not have to live under crushing the "information-load" we were never wired to deal with. Satan drives us with fear and deception to think if we could just accumulate a wee bit more knowledge of "stuff", we would be at peace. That's like saying if we keep digging deeper into the hole we stand in, we will somehow fill it in at last.

But, when we come to know, by His revealing Himself to us in Jesus Christ, that God knows us, our limitations, our truest needs, our desperate need for the security and peace we were created for and we surrender to Him, not our own understanding, HE becomes our security and peace. We are meant to grow in that understanding by the Holy Spirit opening our whole being to God's promises and Truth. Growing in grace tells me I don't know it all, I haven't "arrived" yet at the wholeness that is at work within be by the Holy Spirit living out the Life of Jesus in me.

Proverbs 3:5-7 makes this very clear. "Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and don't rely on or depend on your own understanding. Seek His will for you in all you do and He WILL show you the right way to go. Don't be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead hold the Lord in awe and reverence and turn away from evil."

So, my security in this life does not come from and never will come from my own "knowing", but from being known by God. He alone knows what will make for life in its fullness for me. He will let me know what I need to consider from news feeds and what to sluff off. He alone provides the power for living, His indwelling Holy Spirit. It is in Him that my life is secure, even when everything is shaking and destabilized. His Presence never departs from those who trust Him and surrender all of life to Him in faith. He is the Lord, my security and salvation.

WHAT DO YOU BLESS? It would be an act of utter folly and disaster were I to choose to "bless" what God will not bless. God's wrath is set against anything and anyone that would try and hinder you becoming all He created you to be and to grow in by being united to Him through the sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ. There is nothing arbitrary about the Word of God. He is very specific on what will make for life and what will not. Human life only becomes human life when the Holy Spirit becomes Life withing a believer. Being united to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the follower of Jesus becomes a new creation and begins to live Life as God intended. God begins the good work, and He is the One who will bring it to competition. Somethings will NEVER make for life. What God calls sin, missing the mark of what will make for life, is always sin regardless of what culture anywhere and anytime say to the contrary. Sin cannot save, heal, redeem, restore or remake...
BEWARE DECEPTION   Deuteronomy 18:9 “When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there. Deuteronomy 12:29-30 “When the Lord your God goes ahead of you and destroys the nations and you drive them out and live in their land, do not fall into the trap of following their customs and worshiping their gods. Do not inquire about their gods, saying, ‘How do these nations worship their gods? I want to follow their example.’ Pragmatics was the downfall of Israel when they took possession of the Promised Land. To the unredeemed eye, it seemed that the fertility gods and agricultural gods of the pagan nations actually were helping the indigenous peoples. Just because something works does not make it right or good.  God promised to prosper His people if they would trust Him to the point of obeying His Word. God's Word is not empty. When He directs and commands, it is always for...
THE FOLLY OF IDOLATRY Martin Luther said that the human heart is an idol factory. The truth is that we were created to know and live by the gracious rule of and in the Presence of God who created us. Our peace, our understanding of meaning and purpose can only be truly grounded in God who created us for that meaning and purpose. The rebellion of Adam and Eve, their decision to do the opposite of what God said would make for life, resulted in spiritual and ultimately physical death. They chose to believe they needed something more than what God had provided. Their doomed attempt to try and live life without reference to God as the ground of meaning and purpose did not make life fuller, but emptied it. They wanted to decide what was good and what was evil without God and the disintegration of human life was the consequence. Rather than living in the Presence of God and by the gracious rule of God all around them, they turned from wholeness to brokenness, from fulfilment to scarc...
